When the treatment becomes the problem: MoH
Medication overuse headache (MOH) often occurs when patients self-medicate to alleviate acute symptoms of migraine. A medication that helps initially soon stops working, and eventually contributes to the migraine. Dr Giorgio Lambru, Consultant Neurologist and headache specialist at Guy’s & St Thomas’ NHS Foundation Trust in London, told us about the importance of raising awareness of MOH, and how patients, clinicians and even pharmacists can play a part in reducing its impact.
